Promoting Natural Gas for Fueling River Transportation

Jan 3, 2013 Transportation & Infrastructure

A key goal of P32 is to maximize the transition to alternative fuels for all forms of transportation, prioritizing fleet vehicles and river tugs. Pittsburgh Region Clean Cities has made great strides working with commercial fleet operators on regional waterways to convert individual boats to alternative fuels as opportunities arise. Now, the organization, in collaboration with the Port of Pittsburgh, the Rahall Transportation Institute in Huntington, WV, and representatives of the gas, river transportation and river fuel industries, are actively raising funds for a marine corridor project to promote the use of natural gas for fueling river transportation on the freight waterway from Morgantown to Pittsburgh to Huntington.
